Tara Carpenter is a fictional character in the Scream film series, created by Kevin Williamson and portrayed by Jenna Ortega. She is the deuteragonist of Scream (2022) and its sequel Scream VI (2023). [1] [2] [3]

While home alone, the "elevated horror" fan becomes the first target of the 2021 Legacy Killings. Despite this, she survives, an inverse to the tradition of the previous four film openings.

She is considered the true final girl (by fans) of the new franchise, serving as an amalgam of Casey Becker (the first target) and Sidney Prescott, the teenage heroine who survives in the climax. The fact that she survived despite her harsh injuries and became a final girl further connects the hybrids of Casey and Sidney between these two characters in the movie's recollection. This fulfills the original intent of what Wes Craven wanted Drew Barrymore (Casey) to play as a final girl. [4]

Early life[edit]

Tara was born to Mr. Carpenter and Christina Carpenter on December 14, 2002 and grew up adoring her older sister, Sam. In mid-late December 2010, as a result of exposing this information, Tara's father left the family that night. Sam then eventually went down a downward spiral for the next approximate 5 year period, eventually abandoning her family. [5]

Scream (2022): 2021 Woodsboro Legacy Murders[edit]

Tara becomes the first target of the new Ghostface, but surprisingly manages to survive after 7 stab wounds. Because of this, his sister, Sam, returns to Woodboro with her boyfriend Richie, after 5 years since they lost contact. [6] There, Sam reveals the reason she believes she was targeted, revealing that she is the daughter of Billy Loomis, the original Ghostface. Tara gets angry and kicks Sam out. [7]

While Tara remains hospitalized, Sam and her friends try to uncover Ghostface while some die. Among them Wes and Judy Hicks whom Ghostface kills to divert attention from Sam and go after Tara again.

Tara tries to leave the hospital seeing that she is alone, but Ghostface arrives and attacks her again but Tara is rescued by Sam, Richie after Dewey Riley sacrifices himself.[8]

The sisters and Richie decide to leave Woodsboro, but Tara needs her inhaler and Amber has to go. Upon arrival they discover that there is a party to pay tribute to Wes, there Tara witnesses how Amber reveals herself as Ghostface and kills Liv and then ties her up in a closet. Though Sam secretly releases her and when Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, and Sam confront Amber and her revealed accomplice, Richie, Tara kills Amber and delivers a final sentence.[9]

In the end, Tara is assisted by the doctors and asks to be taken to another hospital.

In August 2020, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega were cast in undisclosed roles.[10][11] In an interview with Nightmare on Film Street on September 11, 2020, Ortega was confirmed as playing a lead role by The Babysitter: Killer Queen director McG.[12]

Her character name was confirmed by HelloSidney.com in January 2021[13]

In May 2022, it was announced that Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega would also return for the sixth film.
