The Beech Boys is a 2019 American comedy television series created by Matt Tory and J.J. Carroll.

Following the misadventures of pool boys who call themselves "The Beech Boys," the series ran for three seasons from 2019-2023 and featured episodes marked by their unique style and parodies of various film genres.

Synopsis[edit]

An egomaniac and his dimwitted best friend make their living cleaning pools in the quiet community of Beechwood Estates. If their neighbors' patience continues to wear thin, though, the duo's days as pool boys may be numbered. [1][2][3]

Further seasons include additional pool cleaners being added to the group, as well as highlighting the various neighbors the pool boys interact with.[4]

Cast[edit]

  • J.J. Carroll as Trey
  • Zach Castle as Ethan
  • Josh Fasold as Todd
  • Matt Tory as Cedric
  • Courtney Coker as Callie
  • Becky Brown as Dottie
  • Jimmy Wu as Dave
  • Jamie Costa as FBI Agent Ashley
  • Jack Vale as FBI Agent Marikate
  • Chloe Clem as Chloe

Production[edit]

The series was shot in Orange County, California from 2018-2022, with most of the crew having met in film school at Biola University.[5][6]

After becoming a fan of the show during the first season, Chloe Clem and her sister Lily were invited by the creators to join the series in a supporting role as Todd's sisters.[7] Viral internet stars Jamie Costa and Jack Vale joined the cast in Season 3 as FBI Agents Marikate and Ashley.[8][9] After guest starring on the show, Costa would go on to create the sketch comedy group 'Halfway Handsome' with Tory, Carroll and Fasold.[10] Tubi became the official home of the series starting with its third season.[11]

The title of every episode of the series is notably a parody of a song title by The Beach Boys.[12]

Reception[edit]

The series was met with generally positive reviews. Simon Appleton of The Movie Moustache gave the series a 9/10, stating "Tory and Carroll dig into their love of popular culture and put a unique and crazy spin on every episode, each one a hysterical parody."[13] In addition, David Duprey of ThatMomentIn.com called the series "a funny, well-made bit of distraction. Recommended."[14]

The series won "Best Comedy" at the 2019 Angaelica Festival, as part of the Catalyst Story Institute & Content Festival in Duluth, Minnesota.[15]
