The Grinch: Christmas Adventures is a 2023 video game developed by Casual Brothers Limited and published by Outright Games[2] for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Windows, Xbox Series X/S.[1]

Plot[edit]

The plot of the game as a whole follows the plot of the book of the same name, but only during cut scenes where the book itself is shown, read by a voice-over. Between cut scenes, levels begin that are not directly related to the plot of the book and have a deviation from the plot.[1]

Gameplay[edit]

You control who is the Grinch and Max the dog.[2][1] The player's task is to complete all eighteen levels. Or rather, three locations, each of which has six levels. Grinch's Cave, Countryside and Whoville.[1] In every five levels from three locations, the Grinch runs from left to right, avoiding obstacles with enemies, and also collects gifts and puzzles along the way to improve additional abilities. Sometimes the Grinch runs into the inside of houses, where he has to steal gifts from the house unnoticed and try not to get caught in the eyes of other whos and huge gingerbread men. In the sixth levels of the first and second locations, the Grinch runs away from top to bottom, going down the mountain from a snow stone and a giant toy ball rolling behind him, and in the final level, the Grinch, having realized the meaning of Christmas and realizing what he has done, moves from bottom to top, returning gifts to everyone, which he stole before.

Development[edit]

Casual Brothers worked closely with Dr. Seuss Enterprises to determine how to stay true to the original story and create a fully interactive experience in a playful way, while also creating their own 2023 version of the Grinch, Max and Who-ville.[2]

When creating The Grinch, the developers tried to retain the spirit of the book of the same name, and the side-scrolling platform adventure is a timeless game design familiar to gamers of all generations and skill levels.[1]
