The Timekeeper's Secret' is a young adult dystopian novel set in a steampunk world of Time Travel[1] and Manipulation. Written by iLana Markarov, it is the first book of the series: Timeless Fate. Released on June 23, 2023[2], the novel achieved success by being placed on Amazon's "Top 5 Hottest New Releases" List.[3]
Synopsis[edit]
Set at the mysterious elite Gridwick Academy for Timekeeping[4], not to far from the fictional city of Ashenburg, the novel follows a troubled and peculiar Timekeeper, Alvara Harlow. Ridden with a dark past, Alvara enters the academy with only one mindset, to uncover the hidden mysteries within the dangerous academy. Although being gifted with the ability to manipulate the past, present, and future through the release of Time Aura from pocket watches and time pieces, things are not as easy as they seem when certain death, the Anti-Faceless, the Dark Figure, Tinkers, nosey students and professors, the Librarian, and the constant mental and physical exhaustion from the drawbacks of using Time Aura, all oppose her quest.
Encountering an inexperienced Timekeeper yet knowledgeable, Azalea Spera[5], Alvara partners with her to uncover all the secrets hidden within. In between their dangerous expeditions, Alvara passes the time at Gridwick Academy of Timekeeping as a top and popular student, constantly on the look out and indirectly rivaling with the other top student, Sterling Aliester, who always starts a fight with her at any given moment. On the surface, everything might seem fine and dandy in the world of Timekeepers; however, as the story dives deeper into the workings of Time Aura, one realizes that things are a lot more complex, gut-wrenching, and tragic than they seem.
The World[edit]
The world is made up of metals and old buildings giving it the very definition of steampunk. 10,000 years after a disaster, The Great Fire[6], the people are presently made up of mechanical body parts of all kinds. The Gridwick Academy stands on a hill far away from the of Ashenburgh. Tinkers are small robots, though they can be of various sizes, that are made up of scraps and metals in order to perform specific duties.
Timekeeper Fashion[edit]
Timekeepers must always possess a pocket watch[7]. Their attire at Gridwick consists of waist coats, blazers, pants, boots, top hats and googles. Waistcoats are a must in order to comfortably keep all their pocket watches in their pockets and be able to take them out at any given moments. Googles are a must in order to see Time Aura and protect their eyes.
Characters[edit]
- Alvara Harlow: The protagonist and primary point-of-view character. Although she's mysterious[8] with often questionable motives, Alvara is incredibly skilled at time traveling and manipulating Time Aura as well as possessing the mental capacity to assess the most critical situations. Alvara is also physically skilled, receiving help from her mechanical eyes and arm when in need.
- Azalea Spera: The deuteragonist and is Alvara's best friend. Although having grown up an orphan that survived within libraries, Azalea has a very strong and curious spirit that often gets her into the oddest situations. Although Azalea possess strong knowledge of the world and possess a photogenic memory, this dandelion is incredibly directionally challenged.
- Sterling Aliester: The main male antagonist and is rumored to be Alvara Harlow's main love interest despite being rivals and enemies. Sterling seems to possess a strong ability to charm all those around him, aside from the all knowing Alvara. He has a lot of friends and is a very outgoing person. Sterling often finds himself fighting with Alvara.
- Dark Figure: The Dark Figure is a faceless villain and one of the main antagonists of The Timekeepers Secret - Timeless Fate Series by iLana Markarov.
- Anti-Faceless: The Anti-Faceless is a vicious cult and is one of the main antagonists and villains. They are recognized by their dark, blue cloak, but conceal themselves in the daytime amongst the students, professors, and other citizens.
