Thomas W. Hanchett is a historian and author in the United States.[1]

He taught urban history and history preservation at Youngstown State University and Cornell University. He then became the staff historian at the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte, North Carolina and since 2019 has been historian-in-residence at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library.[2]

He was interviewed about his book Sorting Out the New South City, Second Edition: Race, Class, and Urban Development in Charlotte, 1875–1975.[3]

UNC Charlotte has a collection of his research papers related to Charlotte's Independence Park.[2]
