Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is intended to be a film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Development[edit]
In early 2020, Sony Pictures was in development on a "high priority" film featuring a female character from Marvel Comics, believed to be Spider-Woman, as part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Gary Spinelli wrote a script for the film, and Sony began discussions with Olivia Wilde to direct it. Wilde considered passing on the project due to her busy schedule, but ultimately closed a deal for the film in August 2020 due to the opportunity to launch her own female superhero. Wilde was set to completely re-develop the project with her writing partner Katie Silberman, with Amy Pascal producing the film and Rachael O'Connor serving as executive producer.[1]
