UserTesting is a technology company, based in San Francisco, California, that provides a user research platform.

History[edit]

UserTesting was founded in 2007.[1] The company initially gathered usability feedback about websites, paying users to complete online tasks while recording their on-screen actions and voice. They would use this information to rate the usability of the website. Users were also gauged on how helpful their feedback was towards future product development.[2]

In 2019 the company acquired TruthLab, and in March of 2022, UserTesting acquired Norway-based Teston.[3][4] Also in 2020, UserTesting was named one of the 500 fastest growing companies in the United States by the Financial Times.[5]

The company’s IPO went public on November 17, 2021.[6] In 2022 the company sold to a private equity firm for $1.3 billion.[7] In 2023 the company launched a set of generative AI features within its core platform.[8]

Testers[edit]

The UserTesting network of testers complete approximately 1.5 million sessions annually.[4] As a result of the merger with UserZoom, the company also has registered users to test via UserZoom.[9]

Funding[edit]

By 2012 the company had attracted $3 million in funding.[2] In 2015 it received a funding round of $45.5 million.[10] In 2020 the company added another $100 million in funding. [4] It has also received government funding from institutions, such as Scottish Enterprise.[11]
