Draft:Vigilance Committee

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vigilance Committee was an organization that assisted escaped slaves and the Underground Railroad.

The Vigilant Committee of Philadelphia began in 1837 and continued until 1852 as a secret auxiliary of the Vigilant Association, an organization formed by abolitionist Robert Purvis in August 1837 to publicly promote antislavery ideology and "to create a fund to aid colored persons in distress."
