The Virginia Legislature, the Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate[citation needed], met in 1782. It passed various landmark bills. The session occured after the American Revolution and the surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown in 1781.[2]
Members included John Marshall.[2] The legislature passed a bill allowing manumission.[3] A resolution commending George Washington and Lafayette for their military service and leadership.[4] It passed a resolution on "Virginia's Claim to Western Territory".[5]
George Washington wrote to the legislature January 5, 1782 regarding impressment.[6]
