Vitreoretinal degeneration, or dominant hyaloideoretinal dystrophy of Wagner, VCAN-related vitreoretinopathy, vitreoretinal degeneration, Wagner type or Wagner syndrome, is a hereditary eye disorder that soon leads to vision loss. This eye disorder is characterised by the clear thick gel (the vitrous) develops into a thin layer. Vitreoretinal degeneration is caused by genetic changes in the VCAN gene and is inherited in an autosomal manner.[1]

Symptoms[edit]

Symptoms will presents itself as thinning of the light-sensitive tissue that lines the back of the eye (retinal detachment). Not only that but abnormalities of the blood vessels within the retina are present.[1]

Estimation[edit]

Fewer than 1,000 people in the United States have this hereditary eye disorder.[1]
