William Lowndes Lipscomb (January 3, 1828 - May 22, 1908)[citation needed] was a surgeon, newspaper editor, and author. He edited the Columbus Democrat and wrote A History of Columbus, Mississippi; During the 19th Century.
His wife went by "Tallula". He wrote a letter of condolences to the daughter of his aunt in 1864.[2] His book on Columbus was published posthumously.
His father, Dabney Lipscomb, was an academic who served two terms as president of the Mississippi Senate. John Isaac Guion succeeded him in the office and became interim governor.[3]
Lipscomb was a Methodist. He had a slave named Julius who he loaned to the Confederacy.

Literature professor Dabney Lipscomb was one of his sons.[4][5] He wrote accounts of William Ward (poet),[6] Thomas Albert Smith Adams, and Stephen D. Lee.
