Draft:Winchester High School Wrestling

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Winchester high school wrestling team is based in Winchester, MA and has a winning tradition of over 40 years filled with State titles, and accolades. Originally, coach Larry “The Legend” Tremblay was known for developing inexperienced wrestlers into Sectional Champs, State place winners, as well as All States and All American champions. He entered the MA chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of fame in 2014[1]. Coach Tremblay guided the Sachems for 38 years to over 700 team wins[2] and his program was one of the top in the state as well as in school history.

The team honor roll has stats dating back to the early 1980’s when Coach Tremblay started coaching in Winchester. Larry cut his chops wrestling for Springfield College. After graduating he started coaching in North Reading before he moved to Winchester. Coach Ryan Errico, who captained the 2016 WHS wrestling team under Coach Tremblay and later Springfield College, took over the program in 2022 and is rebuilding Winchester Wrestling into the powerhouse program it once was.

Winchester wrestling has a growing girls wrestling team, with a divisional state champion in 2024. An active alumni network supports the program[3].

The 2023-2024 Varsity team sent 6 grapplers to the divisional state tournament and 2 to the all-state tournament
