Ivan Zečić (born May 2, 1991), professionally known as ZETZ, is a music producer, composer, songwriter, mixing engineer and a multi-instrumentalist. As a versatile musician he is adept at playing keyboards, guitar, bass guitar, drums and percussion.[1] [2] Additionally, ZETZ is an entrepreneur who has established his own independent record label.[2]

ZETZ is known for his remarkable success in the music industry in a short period of time. He gained recognition for writing and producing an impressive series of 10 consecutive number-one singles on the official Croatian airplay chart, HR Top 40, all within a span of just 2 years.[2][3] He is regarded as one of the most successful songwriters and music producers of his generation.[4] Additionally, he is a member of Mensa, a renowned high IQ society.[2]

Life and career[edit]

ZETZ's musical journey began with classical piano training, which he later complemented by learning to play the electric guitar. Within a short period of 3 years, as a self-taugh guitar player, he mastered complex compositions by guitar virtuosos like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, showcasing his technical proficiency. His own original compositions later earned him additional recognition, resulting in victories in several international guitar competitions.[2]

As ZETZ explored instrumental music, he developed a diverse set of skills necessary for music production and arranging.[1] This exploration led him to venture into different musical genres, where he wrote, recorded, and produced music for commercial advertisements, Hollywood movie trailers, and even had his music featured in a South Korean film. As he refined his expertise as a music producer, he also developed exceptional skills as a mixing and mastering engineer, collaborating with some of the most successful artists and songwriters in Croatia.[1][2]

Following his graduation from the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Zagreb, where he obtained a master's degree, ZETZ briefly contemplated pursuing a doctoral degree. However, his trajectory shifted when his original compositions gained unexpected success, swiftly becoming number-one bestsellers and getting significant usage in over 60 countries across North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. It was this unforeseen success that ultimately led him to choose a professional music career.[2]

Shifting his focus to pop music, ZETZ aimed to achieve significant airplay on radio and television. In his first 6 years as a writer, composer and producer, he released a total of 32 songs, out of which 14 reached the number-one position on the renowned Croatian airplay chart, HR Top 40.[1] These songs became immensely successful, breaking certain records, dominating the airwaves and collectively spending 35 weeks at the number-one position in less than 6 years.[1][5][6][7][8]

ZETZ's exceptional accomplishments have resulted in numerous nominations and awards for his work, including recognitions at the esteemed MAC (Music Awards Ceremony), Cesarica Award, CMC Festival Award and TOP.HR Music Awards. He has also had the privilege of performing as both an artist and a composer at major concerts, festivals and events in Croatia and other countries. Notable appearances include the MAC (Music Awards Ceremony), CMC Festival, CMC 200, Zagrebfest, Aurea Fest and others. In addition, he received a certificate of appreciation from the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Zagreb for his contribution to the creation of the faculty's anthem, which also achieved remarkable success in radio airplay.[1]

ZETZ's talents as an instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer have led him to collaborate with some of the most successful artists and songwriters in the music scene, including Giuliano, Pero Galić (Opća Opasnost), Leteći Odred, Grupa Vigor, Pravila Igre, Igor Delač, Mario Roth, Dino Jelusick, Noelle and Miro Buljan. Notably, during his teenage years, he participated in a project where he had the opportunity to contribute alongside Savan Kotecha, a renowned songwriter and a key collaborator of Max Martin, both of whom he considers his greatest influences.[1]

ZETZ's remarkable achievements have earned him the distinction of being a full member of the Croatian Composers' Society,[1] a professional organization dedicated to composers in Croatia, where full membership in the society is currently limited to a select group of approximately 360 individuals.[9]
