Zyxel Networks Corp. (Chinese: 兆勤科技股份有限公司) is a Taiwanese multinational networking company headquartered in the Hsinchu Science Park, Taiwan, serving 150 markets worldwide.[1] It provides networking hardware and licensing solutions for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).[2]

Zyxel Networks was spun off on April 1, 2019, from Zyxel Communications Corp.,[3] which was founded on August 16, 1989. Both companies are subsidiaries of Zyxel Group Corp.[4]

History[edit]

Shun-Yi Chu founded Zyxel Communications on August 16, 1989, to develop components for high-speed chipsets.[5] In 1991 and 1992, respectively, the company introduced the world's first V.32 bis (14400bps) modem and the first fully integrated fax machine, phone, and modem.[6]

The company went public on the Taiwan Stock Exchange on August 24, 1999.[7]

On March 23, 2010, Zyxel Communications was spun off and became a subsidiary of the newly established holding company Unizyx Holding Corp. (later renamed Zyxel Group Corp. on June 15, 2023) [8] On October 30 that year, Zyxel Communications spun off its original equipment manufacturing business into MitraStar Technology Corp., which is also a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Zyxel Group.[9]

Zyxel Communications underwent another split on April 1, 2019, separating its channel business into Zyxel Networks. The new company took over the provision of networking and cybersecurity products and services to SMBs, while Zyxel Communications continued to market to telecom and internet service providers.[10]
