Eau Sauvage is a perfume for men that is produced by Parfums Christian Dior and was created by perfumer Edmond Roudnitska.[1] The perfume was introduced in 1966,[2] and it was Dior's first perfume for men.[3]

The name of the fragrance is reputedly the result of a late arrival by Christian Dior's friend Percy Savage to Dior's home. Dior had asked Savage to help find a name for a perfume for men. When Savage arrived, he was announced by Dior's butler as "Monsieur Sauvage"; the designer decided that "Oh, Sauvage" would be a fitting name.[4]

On its release, advertisements for the perfume featured French actor Alain Delon.[5]

Scent and Notes[edit]

"Sauvage" by Dior is an Aromatic Fougere fragrance for men, introduced in 2015. François Demachy, the nose behind the scent, curated a blend with Calabrian bergamot and pepper as top notes. Its heart comprises Sichuan pepper, lavender, pink pepper, vetiver, patchouli, geranium, and elemi. The base notes feature ambroxan, cedar, and labdanum, contributing to its distinct character. François Demachy, Dior's in-house perfumer, crafted a new fragrance described as both radically fresh and noble. The scent boasts carefully chosen natural ingredients, with Calabria bergamot providing a fresh opening, while ambroxan from rare ambergris lends a woody depth to the composition.[6]
