Summary[edit]

Diagram showing the relationship between various layers of the internet protocol suite.

The top grey box shows two hosts connected via two routers. The bottom grey box shows the various layers of the IP suite and which hops in the network use which layers. Both routers use the network layer in order to route packets based on the IP address while the hosts use all layers. Both the transport layer and application layer have a virtual connection between them — peer-to-peer in the sense that only the two peers use the layers.

Original file[edit]

This file was originally created in OpenOffice.org. If there are any changes to be made (different languages) then email me for the original file or give me the details and I'll make the changes. Either way would probably be better than editting the images directly.\
