Summary

Description
English: Picture of the Shaw-Tatom House at 1526 Butler Plank Road in Shaler Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on November 7, 2009. The house was built in 1824, and an addition was added to it between 1830 and 1832. The house is on the List of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks. On Page 325 of Walter C. Kidney's book Landmark Architecture: Pittsburgh and Allegheny County (1985) it lists this house as the "Thomas Wilson Shaw House", and goes on to say, "The ell of this house, built by Thomas Wilson Shaw, an eminent doctor and the son of founding settler John Shaw, was a house in itself and still appears as such, with a symmetrical front and a central doorway porch. The front portion, built a half-dozen years later, is of equal size, but here the porch is a four-bayed Grecian Doric composition of square channeled columns with an elegant Greek Revival doorway behind. As in 1824, the bricklayer put up a simple building block; the pomp of the new entrance was the carpenter's work. Landmarks plaque"
