Spoken article quality assessment[edit]

Technical quality: Medium

Standard introduction and licence details are present and correct.
Sound quality varies. Most of the article seems to have had slightly too much noise reduction; the lead paragraph is affected the most. In contrast, the last paragraph of Section 3.4, starting "A snow called the Unity...", sounds just right: very clear and "bright".
Intermittent low-pitched buzzing from 05:26 ("...for the daughter he left behind...") to 05:49 ("...a shipment of logs for resale in Boston.").
Some "clipped", scrapey sounds at the end of sections which appear to have been recorded separately and edited together—notably at 03:44 before the image description, and also after all the section headings. They sound a bit like the noise made by stopping a tape recorder when it is recording.
Some microphone bumps and scrapes: one or two are quite loud. There is one just before the "Life in Boston" section, one each side of the word "Legacy" at the start of that section, one after "External links", and another just before the licensing bit at the end. These, and the scrapey sounds referred to above, could be edited out quite easily.

Clarity: High

Clear enunciation and steady, comfortable pacing.
The main body of the article flows well with minimal hesitation and no editing glitches (large gaps, overlaps etc.). There are slight hesitations at approximately 08:01 ("setting it alight"), 10:23 ("from the yard arm") and 15:11 ("hordes of pirates").

Accuracy: Medium

A very "full" narration is given, in terms of image captions, infobox, table of contents, external links and so on, which is helpful for the listener.
Section 2: "At first working honestly as a rigger, in early 1722 he joined...". In the narration, the break between the clauses is shifted to "At first working honestly as a rigger in early 1722, he joined...", changing the meaning.
Section 3.1: "Lowther" is usually pronounced /'laʊðɚ/, although it may be different in George Lowther's case.
Section 3.1: "May 28 1722" is read as "May 28 722".
Section 3.3 The sentence "Low, now commanding the captured sloop [...] the disciplining of one of Spriggs' crew" has some problems with stress and pacing.
Section 3.4: "Portuguese captain's lips" read as "Portuguese's captain's lips".
Section 3.5: "Wapping" should be pronounced /'wɒpiŋ/ (to rhyme with shopping).
Section 3.5: "peculiarly cruel" is read as "particularly cruel".
I think the word "Pistoles" in the third quotation should be read with three syllables. This quotation also omits the "Begin quotation" and "End quotation" markers.
Section 5: "Boatswain" should be pronounced /ˈbo.sn̩/.
Section 5: "Defrauding one another to the value of a Royal of Plate" is read as "Defrauding one another of the value of Royal of Plate".
