Long and short[edit]

The recording has recently been changed to a short version /ɑ/ which is misleading for some usage (e.g. in Northern England English). Shouldn't we have long and short versions (i.e. /ɑː/ and /ɑ/). Dbfirs 21:34, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Dbfirs: this sound is a recording of the cardinal vowel [ɑ], which may coincidentally[1] sound close to, or nearly the same as some of the vowels transcribed ɑ in world's languages (General White South African English is a great example). Therefore, its length is not relevant. That said, I've just brought back the previous version of the recording, which sounds quite close to cardinal [ɑ]. Thanks for that. I must admit that I struggle to understand phonetics. Dbfirs 20:18, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Peter238 (talk) 21:33, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
