History[edit]

They opened there doors on July 1, 2017, and since have served the thriving poster community in San Francisco through both the exhibitions and printmaking studio. The building is located in Lower Haight and has a complex history, originally being part of San Francisco State Teachers' College (now SFSU).[1] Additionally it is home to the iconic The Bronze Bunny sculpture by Jeremy Fish.[2]

Community[edit]

Haight Street Art Center's focus on community has allowed them to host printmaking pop ups at a variety of offsite locations including, the California Academy of Sciences, Outside Lands,[3] the National AIDS Memorial Grove, and Amoeba Records.

Additionally, they collaborate with local artists to engage differing communities in San Francisco. Most recently in 2023, they have worked with mural artist Oscar Lopez to bring awareness to food justice issues and climate in California.[4] This project was mural based and included community pop ups as well as printmaking classes onsite.
