Hazem Omar

Hazem Mohamed Suleiman Omar is an Egyptian politician. He is the head of the Republican People's Party and a senator among 100 members appointed by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in December 2020. Beyond politics, Hazem Omar is the Chairman and Managing Director of Vial Mora Tourism Development Company.

Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (2020-2023)[edit]

Within the Senate, Omar was the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee (from 2020 to 2023), which is concerned with discussing important files, including peace and alliance treaties, all treaties related to sovereign rights and other international agreements and treaties referred to it, in conjunction with the competent committee or committees, studying the international situation, developments in international policy, the foreign policy of the state, the affairs of the League of Arab States and its organizations, the African Union and international conferences.

In addition to other competencies related to international relations, legislation regulating the diplomatic and consular corps, affairs of Egyptians residing abroad and other matters within the competence of ministries and agencies concerned with foreign affairs, immigration affairs and Egyptians abroad.

2023 Egyptian presidential election[edit]

On July 7, 2023, the Republican People's Party nominated Omar to run for in the 2023 presidential election, as the official candidate for the Republican People's Party.[1] He finished in second place with 4.5% of the vote. Nearly 2 million people voted for him in the elections.
