Understandability[edit]

Was this WP Help proof-read by a non-specialist before going online? I am sure not, as it is completely incomprehensible to the average Wikipedian.. It is probably why there are no comments on this Talk page. I doubt this is read by more than one or two people a month, or year. ~ P123ct1 (talk) 14:04, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

http://stats.grok.se/en/latest/Help:Self_link currently says "Help:Self_link has been viewed 434 times in the last 30 days." Talk pages are for discussing improvements. Maybe others don't see a need for that. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:26, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
actually I do have some questions. it isn't really clear to me why self-links shouldn't be used to bold text an article pagename. http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Tardis:Self_links says it interferes with bot maintenance, but what sorts of bot tasks exactly currently eludes me. is it computationally expensive when scaled, etc?
I maintain a small wiki over at fandom for a few years now so I hope some further clarifications on this matter could enlighten people with similar issues. 103.246.55.47 (talk) 04:31, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Bots are not part of the MediaWiki software. The users of each wiki can make and run their own bots and the behaviour depends on the coding of the bot. I don't know whether the English Wikipedia has bots which have problems with selflinks. Selflinks are not forbidden by MediaWiki but just treated specially. Each wiki can make their own rules for them. Wikipedia is not associated with http://tardis.wikia.com. http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Tardis:Self_links was written by a bot operator at that wiki. Maybe it refers to their own bot but I don't know. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:59, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
