History

[edit]

Envisioned by Chancellor Mr. Noman Abid Lakhani (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz), ILMA University stands as a testament to the transformative power of education, founded on the belief that knowledge is the key to unlocking human potential. As the social arm of the renowned Noman Group of Companies, one of Pakistan’s leading business houses, the Global Educational Consultants Society (GEC) spearheaded the institution's creation in 2001. What began as the Institute of Business & Technology (Biztek) on a sprawling 6-acre campus was more than just an educational establishment—it was a beacon of progress, designed to mold the next generation of leaders and innovators. With Noman Abid Lakhani’s visionary leadership, ILMA emerged as a symbol of academic excellence and societal advancement, chartering a new course in Pakistan's higher education landscape.

From its inception, the institute carried the weight of a grand mission: to empower students with knowledge and skills that would transcend borders and disciplines. Biztek, initially affiliated with Girne American University in North Cyprus, began with just two faculties—Management & Social Sciences and Computer Science & IT—but it was destined for greatness. In January 2004, the Assembly of Sindh recognized its growing influence and granted it chartered status as the Institute of Business & Technology, further solidifying its place in academia. Over the years, the institute expanded its academic horizons and embraced new fields of study, ultimately evolving into ILMA University in 2017 through a landmark bill passed by the Provincial Sindh Assembly. This transformation marked the dawn of a new era for the university, one where innovation, diversity, and interdisciplinary learning became the cornerstones of its academic philosophy.

Today, ILMA University is a global institution, recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan and celebrated for its dynamic approach to education. Its state-of-the-art campus, nestled in the heart of Karachi’s educational district, is a hub of creativity and intellectual pursuit. Designed with purpose and precision, it houses everything a student could need—cutting-edge laboratories, a digital library, a grand auditorium, sports clubs, and much more. The university’s faculties, spanning Management Sciences, Computer Science, Science & Technology, and Media & Design, inspire a unique blend of practical knowledge and creative thinking. Under the strategic guidance of Mr. Lakhani, the university has nurtured over 6,500 graduates, each one leaving behind a legacy of leadership and achievement. These graduates are now the torchbearers of ILMA’s mission, lighting the way for future generations to ascend to even greater heights.

ILMA University holds potential funding partnerships with industry at national and international levels where the donors grant academic research funding worth millions of dollars every year for producing industry-oriented research work and its publication in high-impact factor research journals indexed in Web of Science/Scopus. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has badly affected the research contributions by the researchers due to the prevailing lockdown and their confinement to homes leaving a huge balance of research funds unutilized as of date.

ILMA University invites emerging PhD Scholars to submit their research proposals for approval of the Research Grant which not only offers disbursement of Publication Cost up to 100% but also makes you eligible for a Research Honorarium up to USD 2000 subject to the categorization of the Journals by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan-Journal Recognition System (HJRS).
