Joseph Daniel Whitman (born September 17, 2001) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Amateur career[edit]

Whitman grew up in Hudson, Ohio and attended Hudson High School where he set the Ohio state record with ten saves as a junior in 2019. His senior season in 2020 was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic.[1][2] Whitman would start his collegiate career at Purdue. He only pitched 5+23 innings over two seasons for the Boilermakers before he would decide to transfer to Kent State.[3] In his first season with the team, Whitman went 9–2 with a 2.56 ERA and 100 strikeouts.[4] For his performance on the year Whitman earned first team All-Mid-American Conference (MAC), and was named the MAC Pitcher of the Year. He was also named a first team All-American.[5]

Professional career[edit]

Whitman was selected by the San Francisco Giants with the 69th overall pick in the 2023 Major League Baseball draft.[6][7] He signed with the Giants for $805,575.[8]
