Question[edit]

Is there anyway to link to the user page, talk page, and contributions page on this?--Richard (Talk - Contribs) 16:48, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Remove quotes[edit]

{{editprotected}} Please remove the quotes around $1 parameter, they are redundant, compare Special:Log/block to Special:Log/protect where page name doesn't have any quotes. It looks like the quotes just stuck here as a result of changes in early MediaWiki versions, default english message MediaWiki:Blocklogentry/en doesn't have them. —AlexSm 18:37, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request[edit]

Please change "blocked $1 $3 with an expiry time of $2" to "blocked $1 with an expiry time of $2 $3" - because it kind of makes more sense. 76.226.136.101 (talk) 19:40, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think that that would put the special details (in parentheses) next to the blocker's summary/reason (also in parenthesis)
current: blocked Example (talk | contribs) (account creation blocked) with an expiry time of indefinite (Vandalism)
proposed: blocked Example (talk | contribs) with an expiry time of indefinite (account creation blocked) (Vandalism)
IMO, the current format is easier on the eye. Ansh666 19:52, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yess... Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit protected}} template. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:20, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Ansh666 and if it were changed like that, then it would be better for (Vandalism) to come before (account creation blocked). Anyway, the IP's suggestion makes more sense grammatically, but the current format is better technically (you don't want the reason and parameters to be too close together to avoid confusion). And per POSIWID and the KISS principle, technical easiness beats grammar pedantry. Ginsuloft (talk) 00:32, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

blocked {{{$1|$1}}} {{{$3|$3}}} {{#ifeq:{{{$2}}}|indefinite|indefinitely|with an expiry time of $2}}

You can see how it works here. Here is my brief template test for it. Zeke Essiestudy (talk) 18:34, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Pages in MediaWiki space sometimes work like templates, but not always. Those that don't work like templates typically have dollar parameters, as with this one. --Redrose64 (talk) 18:57, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I once made this monstrously complex block template that was able to be changed based on the blocking reason, and it worked. Zeke Essiestudy (talk) 19:33, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's been lost since Wikkii (which means Wikinet) has been wiped from the earth since last year, but it'd be like, a red block message with Stop x nuvola if it's an indefinite block, or Stop x nuvola with clock if it's a definite block. Additionally, it's been a blue block message if it had to do with usernames, and a yellow block message if it had to do with compromised accounts. It definitely worked, and it was pretty fun to make. But anyway, I think this might also be able to work if we briefly test it. Zeke Essiestudy (talk) 20:03, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The page Wikkii has never existed. If it did there would be at least one entry in its log, which would include either a "delete" or a "move", but there are neither. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:20, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nono, I mean Wikkii.org/Wikinet.org. It used to be a wiki-hosting site that disappeared from the internet somewhere around 2014. Zeke Essiestudy (talk) 20:40, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
