Mirai (meaning Future in Japanese)[1] is a Czech pop music group, founded in 2014 in Nový Jičín. It's frontman, singer and guitarist is Mirai Navrátil. Another members are Šimon Bílý (drummer), Michal Stulík (bass guitarist) and Tomáš Javůrek (guitarist). The band had won both Český slavík and Anděl awards.

Predecessors[edit]

The main character is Mirai Navrátil, singer and guitarist who lives in Frýdek-Místek but was born in Japan. He has been going for music since teen age, played in some local bands, mainly English-singing. One of these bands was called Dolls In The Factory, where he met Šimon Bílý, who later became the cofounder of Mirai.

Beginnings[edit]

In 2014, Mirai Navrátil and Šimon Bílý founded a group called Mirai; in the same year, Michal Stulík became its third member. This trio signed a contract with Universal Music record label and decided to sinbg in Czech.

First achievements[edit]

At the beginning of 2015, Mirai released they first song Dítě robotí ("Robot's Child"), which had pop sound with some electronic. It became one of the three most played song in Czech radio stations. In the same year, they released a second single Souznění; but only the third song became a breakthrough. Song called Cesta z města ("The Way off the City") was published in October 2015 and was presented at the tour of Kryštof band. In January 2016, Cesta z města became the second most played song in Czech radios; another song, called Kokos bez kokosu, reached the top 5 in the same year.

Konnichiwa album[edit]

In February 2017, Mirai released a song called Když nemůžeš, přidej ("If you are exhausted, just speed up"); in a music video of this song, group members are fulfilling tasks, that look like impossible, according to Emil Zátopek's motto. This singl became the most played in Czech radios in nine weeks, even in the spring of 2018, it still remained in top 10.

Before releasing the Konnichiwa album in October 2017, Tomáš Javůrek, the second guitarist, joined Mirai. The album has been made in cooperation of four producers and the musicians used various styles at it. At the time of its released, wife of Šimon Bílý died of a car accident; so the planned common tour with Poetika band was postponed from autumn of 2017 to spring of 2018.

In April 2018, Mirai received a platinum album at the concert at Lucerna Music Bar. Besides Když nemůžeš, tak přidej, another singles like Pojď, zapomenem ("Come on, we'll forget it") and Anděl ("Angel") (twice at the top of Top CZ/SK chart). The band started to appear at many large summer music festivals.

At 2017 Český slavík awards, Mirai were chosen as the Discovery of the year and song Když nemůžeš, tak přidej became the most popular and most streamed song of the year. Mirai became a discovery of the year also at the 2017 Anděl Awards.

Second album[edit]

In January 2019, the band introduced a first song of their second album, whose release was announced to October 2019. In March and April 2019, Mirai won TOP 50 CZ/SK chart six times in a row.

In March 2023, the band announced a work on a new album.
