List issues[edit]

Comparing the list here to List of adjectival and demonymic forms for countries and nations (which WP:NCTV and WP:NCFILM use), there are some inconsistencies:

Additionally, these also have issues:

Thanks for creating this list, as this was something I was looking for myself. --Gonnym (talk) 13:07, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@BrownHairedGirl: pinging you just in-case this doesn't appear on your watchlist. --Gonnym (talk) 13:11, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Gonnym: I think you mistake the purpose of the list. It is not some sort of ground-up attempt to build a list of demonyms. Instead it is a map of the current usage in category names, to allow cross-mapping. It takes no view on whether anyone might view any of the current usages as right or wrong. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:33, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
But why not actually use the correct demonyms? In any case, if that one liner was the response to my issues, I'll just have to duplicate this entire list for just a few fixes. That's some redundant code, but whatever. --Gonnym (talk) 14:39, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Gonnym, the purpose of this module is to allow Module:FooBarHumMigNav to build links between the categories which actually exist. If it uses names other than those actually in use, it won't do that job. e.g.
It would be unwise to assume that infoboxes are all correct. In many cases, there are several possible demonyms, and an unsourced infobox is not a good source.
I think there is already some other module somewhere which does demonyms. I recall finding something on my path to building this module, but I forget where it is. If you ask at WP:VPT, someone will probably be able to identify it; I find that my queries there usually get a prompt and helpful response. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:12, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Name change[edit]

Could you please move this module to something like Module:Country adjective so it would not be a sub-page of another module? I would like to use this module and see no reason why this shouldn't be a generalized module instead of a sub-module. It would also make finding it easier for other editors (I know I would never have found it without someone else pointing me to it). --Gonnym (talk) 13:10, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Gonnym: see my reply above. This a list whose purpose is very narrow and precise: mapping country names to the demonym as currently used in the category system. I have objection to a wider usage of it, provided that core purpose remains absolutely unchanged. So a new name woulkd have to be something like Module:Category country name to category country adjective pairs. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:37, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Great British[edit]

Note: "Great British" is required for the sake of pre-1801 Great Britain categories with header templates using this module, of which we currently have Category:1800 crimes in Great Britain.

Evidently the list is now used in both directions, so multiple matches are not allowed, and "British" is required for United Kingdom. – Fayenatic London 22:32, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Federal Republic of Yugoslavia[edit]

Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (which changed its name in 2003) is not covered by this module and is causing problems at Category:1990s in Federal Republic of Yugoslavia sport. Please can this be fixed. Timrollpickering (talk) 11:12, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Timrollpickering I see it listed at Module:CountryAdjectiveDemonym/Adjectives#L-76. Gonnym (talk) 13:29, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah nevermind, I didn't notice the date you asked :) Gonnym (talk) 13:31, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
