This template formats many year ranges in a way that is not in compliance with the guideline at MOS:YEARRANGE. In nearly all cases, year ranges should be in the form YYYY–YYYY, not YYYY–YY. Two-digit ending years are allowed only in limited circumstances.

I suggest that the default output of this template be of the format YYYY–YYYY. An option such as |abbr=yes could be added for the limited cases in which editors wanted to deliberately override the MOS default in circumstances that meet the MOS requirements. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:24, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, it would be helpful to have a |break=yes option that would list multiple year ranges using line breaks instead of commas, for easy vertical skimming when the years are in a table column. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:45, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
