R mentioned in hatnote[edit]

Would it be worth including a parameter that would add {{R mentioned in hatnote}} to the output rcats? I just stumbled upon this redirect while looking at Category:Redirects mentioned in hatnotes, where it seems like such a parameter would be helpful.

I might be able to try and code one in myself at some point, but I thought I’d leave a message here for now in case someone with more experience coding modules than me feels like having a go. A smart kitten (talk) 04:57, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That specific example is no longer as I removed the hatnote from the article. That isn't the base title so no one will looking for that specific title is expecting to reach the dab page. If there are other examples that need it we can add it. Gonnym (talk) 18:08, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 5 May 2024[edit]

Please sync the changes made to the sandbox in this diff. This should implement the ability to add {{R with Wikidata item}} to a redirect by using the parameter wikidata.

I'm requesting this addition as I recently came across the redirect from Quantum Realm to Features of the Marvel Cinematic Universe § Quantum Realm, which I connected to Quantum Realm (Q110970890): fictional subatomic location in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, when I went to add {{R with Wikidata item}} to the redirect, I noticed that the template it used ({{Fictional location redirect}}, which indirectly calls this module) didn't yet support including this rcat. I therefore made this change to the sandbox, which the testcase indicates seems to have worked. All the best, ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 20:32, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If {{R with Wikidata item}} should always be applied when there is a Wikidata item for the redirect, we don't need to have users manually adding that template. That is a main reason this module exists. {{Wikidata}} can be used to check if the page is connected to an item and if so, use the redirect template, without needing any user input. ...... I don't know why I didn't think of that. ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 21:33, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be able to look at adding the code tomorrow if you don't do it before then. Gonnym (talk) 21:38, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll leave it to you to look at tomorrow (if that's alright), as knowing how to add that functionality would probably be a little out of my depth Lua-wise at the moment :) ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 21:43, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was just going to suggest this actually, as I have noticed frequent instances of fictional character or element redirects being connected to redirects after merges. Trailblazer101 (talk) 23:49, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, code is up in the sandbox. Please check with {{Fictional location redirect/sandbox}} that this works like you wanted. Gonnym (talk) 06:40, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to work — I switched to using the sandbox template on Quantum Realm, and tested unlinking and relinking d:Q110970890. {{R with Wikidata item}} wasn’t shown when the item was unlinked, and displayed again after it was reconnected. Best, ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 11:12, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great, will make it live now. Ping me if there are any issues. Gonnym (talk) 11:18, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
