Mountain Springs, Texas

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mountain Springs is an unincorporated community in Cooke County, Texas. It is located at the intersection of Texas Farm to Market Road 372 and Texas Farm to Market Road 922, in the eastern part of the county.

Background[edit]

The community traces its origins to 1875 when the post office opened in a landowner's cabin, although some residents had already moved to the area as early as the 1840s. The name was taken from a spring originating from a hillside next to the cabin; the post office would close in 1904.[1]

The community had its own school district for a time but ultimately the district merged with the Valley View Independent School District in 1947. The building now houses a community center.[2]

The community still maintains a country feel; the only businesses are a feed mill, convenience store, and veterinary clinic, as well as the local water supply corporation and some nearby churches. However, in 2023 the Mountain Springs Municipal Utility District, named for the community, was formed to develop nearby land located in close proximity to Lake Ray Roberts.
