Murder of Billipuram Nagaraju took place in the South Indian state of Telangana.Billipuram Nagaraju were murdered in an honor killing as he had married a Syed Ashrin Sultana a Muslim while he Billipuram Nagaraju was a Dalit an untouchable. The killing was done by Syed Ashrin Sultana's brother Syed Mobin Ahmed and relatives as they opposed the inter faith wedding.[1][2]

Background[edit]

Syed Ashrin Sultana did a Commerce (BCom) and was the youngest of five siblings, She lived in Vikarabad, Hyderabad, while Billipuram Nagaraju did a course at an Industrial Training Institute in Hyderabad . They knew each other since the school days.Nagaraju was native of Marpalle in Rangareddy district[3][4] She married Billipuram Nagaraju at the Arya Samaj temple on 31 January 2022 despite the opposition from her family. Fearing threats from her family they moved to Visakhapatnam and but later returned to Hyderabad. Nagaraju worked as a Car salesman.

Murder[edit]

Billipuram Nagaraju was stabbed with a knife and beaten with an iron rod in the busy Saroornagar area in Hyderabad by Sultana's brother Syed Mobin Ahmed and others on May 4, 2022.Sultana begged for help from passerby but did not get help to save her husband.[5][6][7][8]

Court proceedings[edit]

Sultana's brother Syed Mobin Ahmed, and his brother-in-law, Mohammed Masood Ahmed were convicted for the murder and given life imprisonment.[9][10][11]
