Oorantha Sankranthi is a 1983 Telugu-language drama film, produced by Kodali Bosu Babu Kotagiri Gopal Rao under the Veera Rani Enterprises & Kotagiri Films banner[2] and directed by Dasari Narayana Rao.[3] It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Krishna, Sridevi, Jayasudha and music composed by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam.[4][5]

Plot[edit]

The film begins in a village where its President Raghavaiah, leads a happy family life with his wife, Bhanumati, and two sons, Venu & Gopi. Since the elder son, Venu, is the progeny of the first, Bhanumati looks him down. Parallelly, Kotaiah, the sly brother-in-law to Raghavaiah, resides with them. Gopi loves Kotaiah's daughter Satya, and Venu falls for a peasant, Durga. Meanwhile, the government sanctions ₹.50,000 for the village panchayat, which Kotaiah snatches by endangering Gumustha Ranga Rao and making Raghavaiah resign. Later, Kotaiah, with his deception, turns into the President and tyrant when Venu stands as a barrier. So, he intrigues by creating a rift through Venu's love affair, which Raghavaiah opposes. Hence, Venu quits, and with Gopi's aid, he knits Durga. After a while, Kotaiah wiles to build a hospital by squatting the destitute's hamlet on a selfish motto. Raghavaiah bars it, in turn, mortified. At that moment, Venu guards his father when he understands his virtue and retrieves him. Now, Kotaiah manipulates Gopi, generating a rupture between the siblings, which leads to Raghavaiah's death. Eventually, Gumustha Ranga Rao returns when Venu warns him. Exploiting it, Kotaiah slays him and incriminates Venu when Gopi realizes the facts and secures his brother. At last, the two cease the baddies. Finally, the movie ends happily, with the family's reunion and the marriage of Gopi & Satya.
