Pickering Lumber Co. No. 12 is a 3-truck shay built on October 14, 1903, as Sierra Railway No.12 in Jamestown, California. In 1912, the locomotive was known as "Standard Lumber Co. No. 12" in Standard, California. In May 1966, the engine was then renamed to "Pickering Lumber Co. No. 12". Later, Standard, California, Sold her to Connell Bros. Trucking Co., in Stockton, California for potential resale to Cuba, and was acquired by the PLA. In 1985, the engine was in service at the Castro Point Railway.

In May 1986, the engine participated at SteamExpo 86 in Vancouver, British Columbia along with V&T 22 Inyo, CP 374, CP 3, ERM&L Co. 1 Falk, Dunrobin (2nd), GW 51, AP 2, CN 1392, UP 4466, HL Co. Ltd. 1, MB 1077, QRR 2, Tom Thumb (1927 Replica), Best Friend of Charleston (1928 Replica), MRSR 91, John Bull (1939 Replica), CP 2860, CP 1201, CN 6060, John Molson (1970 Replica), and Stephenson's Rocket (1979 Replica).[1][2][3] On January 8, 2005, the engine was moved to the Niles Canyon Railway.[4][5] As of 2024 the locomotive is stored at Brightside, California, and it is unknown if the locomotive will ever be restored to operating condition ever again.
