The Boat Race[edit]

The BBC has regained the rights to show The Boat Race from 2010. ITV had shown the race but rejected negotiating a new deal because of the costs involved.

The BBC has broadcast the race since it began in 1927.

Nick Griffin[edit]

Nick Griffin, the leader of the British National Party, has announced he is to make a formal complaint to the BBC following his appearance on the Question Time programme on 22 October 2009.

Griffin's appearance on the programme sparked protests at BBC buildings, particularly at Television Centre where protesters entered the building.

The BNP leader said that the programme should not have been filmed in London and that he had faced a 'lynch mob'. The BNP claimed that 3,000 people had applied to join the party during the broadcast of the programme.

The BBC defended including Griffin on the programme stating that it had a duty to be impartial.
