• 1840 – Bishopsgate station opens as the London terminus of the Eastern Counties Railway.
• 1862 – Eastern Counties Railway absorbed by the Great Eastern Railway.
• 1863 – London and South Western Railway opens line from Twickenham to Kingston.
• 1863 – London, Chatham and Dover Railway extends from Herne Hill to Beckenham Junction.
• 1864 – Metropolitan Railway and Great Western Railway open branch from Latimer Road Junction to West London Railway and start services to Kensington.
• 1879 – District Railway extends from Turnham Green to Ealing Broadway.
• 1891 – Metropolitan Railway takes over the Aylesbury and Buckingham Railway.
• 1892 – London, Chatham and Dover Railway opens line between Nunhead and Shortlands.
• 1900 – South Eastern and Chatham Railway extends Chipstead Valley Railway from Kingswood to Tadworth.
• 1913 – Metropolitan Railway takes over the Great Northern & City Railway.
• 1933 – The London Passenger Transport Board is created from a merger of the UERL, Metropolitan Railway and London's privately and municipally owned bus, tram and trolleybus companies.

• 1798 – The Marine Police Force is established to deal with thefts and crime in London's docks.

3 July

• 1871 – District Railway extends from Blackfriars to Mansion House.
• 1932 – District line services end between Ealing Common and South Harrow.
• 1933 – Great Chertsey Road (A316), Twickenham Bridge, Chiswick Bridge and the fourth Hampton Court Bridge over the River Thames open.
• 1939 – Northern line extends from Archway to East Finchley.
• 1968 – A crash of a BKS Air Transport cargo plane landing at Heathrow Airport kills 6 people and 8 race horses and damages 3 planes on the ground.
• 2000 – Transport for London replaces London Regional Transport.

4 July

• 1829 – George Shillibeer's first London Omnibus begins operating between the Yorkshire Stingo, Paddington and the Bank of England in the City of London.
• 1904 – Metropolitan Railway extends from Harrow-on-the-Hill to Uxbridge.
• 1932 – Piccadilly line extends from Hammersmith to South Harrow.
• 1936 – Metropolitan line ends services between Quainton Road and Verney Junction.
• 1948 – A mid-air collision above Northwood between a Scandinavian Airlines passenger plane and an RAF transport plan kills 39.

5 July

• 1936 – Metropolitan line ends services between Aylesbury and Quainton Road.
• 1952 – The last tram in London runs between Woolwich and New Cross.
• 1954 – British Railways branch line from Finsbury Park to Highgate and Alexandra Palace closes to passengers.

6 July

• 1840 – Minories station opens as the London terminus of the London and Blackwall Railway.

7 July

• 1929 – Southern Railway opens the first section of the Wimbledon to Sutton Line between Wimbledon and South Merton.
• 2005 – Four Islamic terrorists detonate bombs on three London Underground trains and a bus killing 52 and injuring more than 700.

8 July

• 1450 – In the Battle of London Bridge during Jack Cade's Rebellion Londoners force Cade's rebels out of the city with fatalities on both sides.
• 1876 – Tolls to use Hampton Court Bridge to cross the River Thames are abolished.
• 1889 – Metropolitan Railway extends from Rickmansworth to Chesham.

9 July

• 1928 – A collision at London Bridge station kills two when a locomotive runs into the side of another train because of a misread signal.

10 July

• 1212 – The Great Fire of 1212 destroys buildings on London Bridge and kills up to 3,000 trapped on the bridge or trying to escape in boats.
• 1801 – Paddington Arm of the Grand Junction Canal opens between Paddington Basin and Bulls Bridge Junction near Hayes.
• 1900 – Bexley Heath Railway taken over by the South Eastern and Chatham Railway.

11 July

• 1848 – Waterloo station opens as the new London terminus of the London and South Western Railway replacing Nine Elms which closes to passengers.
• 1875 – Metropolitan Railway ends its use of mainline platforms at Liverpool Street station.

12 July

• 1841 – London and Brighton Railway opens line from Norwood Junction to Haywards Heath via South Croydon and Redhill.
• 1875 – Metropolitan Railway opens its own station at Liverpool Street.
• 1921 – Harry Hawker, co-founder of Hawker Aircraft dies in an airplane crash at Burnt Oak after taking off from Hendon Aerodrome.

13 July

• 1870 – Victoria Embankment, part of Joseph Bazalgette's Thames Embankment project, opens.
• 1899 – Chipstead Valley Railway absorbed by the South Eastern and Chatham Railway.
• 1928 – A crash of an Imperial Airways passenger plane at Purley shortly after take-off from Croydon Aerodrome kills 4.

14 July

• 1919 – The first international commercial flight between London and Paris arrives at Hounslow Heath Aerodrome.

15 July

• 1817 – Birth of Sir John Fowler, railway engineer.
• 1901 – Metropolitan District Electric Traction Company established by Charles Yerkes to electify the District Railway.

16 July

• 1846 – Grand Junction Railway, London and Birmingham Railway and Manchester and Birmingham Railway merge to form the London and North Western Railway.

17 July

• 1828 – Kingston Bridge over the River Thames opens.
• 1905 – The Royal Commission on London Traffic publishes its report Report of the Royal Commission Appointed to Inquire Into and Report Upon the Means of Locomotion and Transport in London making recommendations on traffic improvements in the London area.
• 1946 – An engine collides with a passenger train in Victoria station injuring several.

18 July

• 1859 – Great Western Railway opens Brentford branch line from Southall to Brentford Dock.
• 1974 – Government cancels plans to develop London's third airport at Maplin Sands, Essex.

19 July

• 1926 – Piccadilly Circus becomes a roundabout.
• 1932 – Second Lambeth Bridge over the River Thames opens.
• 1975 – Piccadilly line extends from Hounslow West to Hatton Cross.

20 July

• 1837 – Euston station opens as the London terminus of the London and Birmingham Railway.
• 1841 – Fenchurch Street station opens as the second London terminus of the London and Blackwall Railway.

21 July

• 1884 – District Railway extends from Osterley & Spring Grove to Hounslow West.
• 1890 – Second Battersea Bridge over the River Thames opens.
• 2005 – Four Islamic terrorists fail in their attempts to detonate bombs on three London Underground trains and a bus. A fifth bomber dumps his bomb unused.

22 July

• 2005 – Armed police officers searching for suspects from the previous day's failed bomb attacks, kill Jean Charles de Menezes on a train at Stockwell station having mistaken his identify.

23 July

• 1971 – Victoria line services commence between Victoria and Brixton.

24 July

• 1973 – Connection made between Central line's Ruislip depot and the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines' Uxbridge branch.

• 1955 – A helicopter shuttle service begins between the Waterloo Air Terminal and Heathrow Airport.

26 July

• 1803 – The Surrey Iron Railway opens between Wandsworth and Croydon.

27 July

• 1846 – London and South Western Railway opens line from Clapham to Richmond.
• 1898 – Marylebone station opens as the London terminus of the Great Central Railway.
• 1946 – A Northern line train crashes into buffers at Edgware when the driver suffers a heart attack and the dead man's handle fails to stop the train.

28 July

• 1912 – Central London Railway extends from Bank to Liverpool Street.
• 1958 – An electrical short circuit kills 1 in a fire on a Central line train near Holland Park.
• 1970 – Westway elevated motorway from Paddington to White City opens.

29 July

• 1991 – Docklands Light Railway extends from Shadwell to Bank.

30 July

• 1900 – Central London Railway opens between Shepherd's Bush and Bank.
• 1964 – British Rail closes West Drayton to Uxbridge Vine Street branch.
• 1990 – Hammersmith Branch of the Metropolitan line becomes the Hammersmith & City line.
• 2010 – TfL introduces its Cycle hire scheme - informally know as Boris Bikes.

31 July

• 1933 – Piccadilly line extends from Oakwood to Cockfosters.
• 1952 – An oral government undertaking was given to residents of Cranford for aircraft to avoid taking-off towards the east from the northern runway at Heathrow Airport.
