Gerard Sagredo (also known as Gellért, c. 980 — 1046), a bishop of Italian origin who operated in Hungary, educated Saint Emeric of Hungary (the son of Saint Stephen of Hungary). He played a major role in converting Hungary to Christianity.
Gellért's martyrdom took place on a hill in Budapest which takes its name from him (see Gellérthegy, Gellért fürdő). Canonized in 1083, Gellért currently functions as one of the patron saints of Hungary.
