The track side of Masarykovo nádraží station (also known as Masaryk railway station) in Prague, Czech Republic, as seen in November 2008. Designed by Antonín Jüngling and opened in 1845, it is the oldest station in Prague.

Canadian passenger train

A passenger train operated by Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) heading eastbound toward Calgary circa 1973. On April 1, 1978, Canadian National Railway's (CN) passenger subsidiary Via Rail became a separate Crown corporation, taking with it possession of former CN passenger cars and locomotives. Following several months of negotiation, on October 29, 1978, Via took over operation of CP passenger train services, along with similar possession of cars and locomotives.

The tracks leading to Union Station in Washington, D.C., as seen from the station building between 1909 and 1932. Union Station opened on October 27, 1908; the first train to serve the station was a Baltimore and Ohio Railroad passenger train arriving from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During World War II, as many as 200,000 people passed through the station in a single day.

The canopy on platform 2 of Kettering railway station in England as seen in 2004. The station was opened in May 1857 by the Midland Railway; it was designed by C. H. Driver, with particularly fine "pierced grill" cast ironwork on the platforms. Although it was altered between 1879 and 1884 when the line was quadrupled and again in 1896, Kettering station is one of the best remaining examples of Midland architecture.

A drawing of Japanese National Railways Type 151 passenger train. This model train set the land speed record for narrow gauge rail vehicles in 1959 when it was operated at 163 km/h (101 mph) on the Tōkaidō Main Line.

Transloading coal from railroad hopper cars to ships involved first getting the coal out of the hoppers and then transferring it onto the ships. Here, the hopper cars are pushed up a short incline by a car pusher where the cars' bottom doors are opened and the coal is emptied by gravity. The coal is then carried up the structure, in this case in bucketloads via an elevator system, and loaded onto the ships.

Preserved Norfolk & Western 1218 pulling an excursion train in Fall 1987. This 2-6-6-4 locomotive was built in by Norfolk and Western Railway 1943 at its Roanoke Shops in Roanoke, Virginia; it was retired in 1959, restored to operating condition in 1987, and is now on static display at the Virginia Museum of Transportation.

Built in 1841 using 11 million bricks, the Ouse Valley Viaduct over the River Ouse on the London-Brighton Railway Line is 1,475 feet (450 m) long, 96 feet (29 m) high and is carried on 37 semi-circular arches with pierced piers. This photograph shows the view through the pierced piers along the length of the viaduct.

On June 8, 1968, a funeral train carried the body of assassinated presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy from New York City to Washington, D.C., via the Pennsylvania Railroad. Paul Fucso, a photographer for Look magazine, rode the train and captured around 2000 images of the thousands of people from many different sections of society who lined the tracks along the route to pay their last respects.
