Unwritten guidelines[edit]

When adding new hooks, keep these things in mind:

  1. Hook must have appeared on the DYK main template and thus on the main page. Nominated is not good enough.
  2. If the hook was on the main page with an image, try very hard to include that image here (unless the image used was a generic one and not a picture from Oregon).
  3. Group hooks in three
  4. Try to keep hook subjects differentiated from each other within the set of three (i.e. the bolded article). For instance try not to have two people, or two places in the same region. If not possible with people, at least try to not have two of the same type of people, such as two politicians or two athletes. Feel free to swap with other sets of hooks if needed.
  5. For images, do not use an image already used in another set here at this portal component. Also try to avoid using the same image as used elsewhere in the portal to avoid having the same image up at the same time.
  6. Don't forget to add (pictured) where needed.
  7. At some point, usually at least one week later, go back and add the "source" for where the article is located in the main DYK archives. This provides the evidence the article appeared on the main page.
  8. Remember these are only used to guide you, ignore when needed.
