Thailand news

How should the Thailand news be handled? I started out doing it with monthly updates, but have slackened. Perhaps it could contain the ongoing most significant stories of the year? --Wisekwai 21:11, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

I think we should update that at least once a month. Doesn't have to be much. Just two or three items is better than nothing. Then when it gets too long, just cut and paste the older ones to the archive --Melanochromis 05:44, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Thailand portal revamped

I reorganized the whole portal and added a couple of new features. Here are something you can help with the portal:

• Nominate selected article and selected picture. Then at the end of the month you can post the ones with the most votes. And also moved the old ones to archive.
• Added more news and "did you know..." but don't forget to transfer the old ones to archive too.
• If you are good with coding, you can help adding more features or polishing the existing ones.
• If you are a dedicated wikipedian, you can set up the Wikipedia:WikiProject Thailand. This WikiProject will be associated with Thailand portal and should help each other a lot.

ThailandPortal Template

This is a template for Thailand portal to congratulate and say thank you to editors of articles that appear in the portal. Please use this template for articles selected for: the "Selected article" and "Selected picture" To use this, just post the template in the discussion section of the article. Then you must fill in the following:

• 1) portal section that the article appears,
• 2) the month, and
• 3) the year.

Saprang Kalayanamitr Good Article evaluation

The Saprang Kalayanamitr article is currently up for Good Article evaluation. If you are interested and know something of the man, please evaluate the article according to the good article criteria and then pass or fail the article as outlined on the candidates page. Introducing "Selected List" section

I have created this section out of User:Wisekwai's idea. Might not be a conventional kind of portal section but we think it's worth trying. Here's the discussions from our talk pages;

Related to the Portal, one thing I was thinking about was to create another featured element to the portal: Featured lists, rather than listing the lists. It would be a great way to highlight some of the better Thailand-related lists and also encourage their improvement. Even if the lists themselves don't yet include images, it would be pretty straightforward to find Commons images to illustrate the highlighted list, such as national parks, shopping malls, etc. What do you think? — WiseKwai 11:23, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Re:List. That's an interesting idea and I think it might help motivate editors to improve the Thailand-related lists. Maybe the name "Selected list of the month" would be better than "Featured list" as most of the lists we are going to present won't be featured lists. The real problem is the monthly update. Do we have a lot of good lists? I'm a bit afraid by the fourth or fifth month we'd have ran out of lists of good quality especially if there're no new lists coming in. This is exactly the problem I had with Portal:Cambodia which ran out of good articles and pictures, and I ended using so-so stuff that I wasn't pround of. But we can give still it a try first anyway. "Selected list" is a better word choice. If you're willing to set it up and try it, that would be awesome. I'll try to keep my eye out for lists that are worthy of promotion. — WiseKwai 12:07, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Some changes, issues with non-free images

I tweaked the code for the randomization enabled version, added/archived some news, and inserted free images here and here where non-free images had been removed. I had created another selected article for Hem Vejakorn, because I thought it to be a nice article, but I backed out of that because it also has a non-free image, and I couldn't locate a free one to go in its place. It seems prudent to use only free-content images in the portal. Tim Shuba 21:07, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Yingluck Shinawatra

This article may need a thorough review, ideally by Thai speakers so that the Thai language sources are checked as well. Currently ithe article seems to have become a latent edit war between red and yellow shirts. Some of the sources might be substandard and and some content is trivial or otherwise inappropriate for an encyclopedia. I tried to clean out some obvious stuff, but I lack the language skills and in depth domain knowledge to do a thorough overhaul or review on my own. Also at least for a while the article may have to be watched closely to prevent further POV pushing from either side.--Kmhkmh (talk) 04:07, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

private microcredits (shae)

I am looking for information (at Wikipedia) dealing with private microcredits called "Shae". A person founds a group of people to join a ring of financially needy recipients for a certain membership term, mostly one year. The monthly minium fee is fixed at the day of the group foundation. Each month, members give a bid for a rate for the following month like a lottery. Exemtion: The first month, where there are no credits accomadated and all membership fees are payable to the organizer. This is to finance the risk if a member does not fulfill his or her obligations (there is only group pressure, social control and reputation, but no securities).

The alotted fee of a month is to be paid by each member including the organizer. The monthly bid obliges a) all members to pay this amount to the organizer and b) pays the winner (highest bidder) the sum of all membership payments for that month for the rest of that duration. The motif for the members is to get a sum of money for the least rate, although I don't understand the system completely (e.g. what about the last months). What's it called (Thai, English)? I have seen a 30+ members Shae group in an Isaan village doing that. It's also common by Thai expats. --Scriberius (talk) 20:04, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

Kho Rat (city)

Please note that there is a page of Kho Rat (city). The title of this page is referred to the city, but the page itself describes the province. There are already both the pages of Nakhon Ratchasima city and Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Should it be deleted?
