Praveen Sood is an Indian policeman who serves as Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation and served as Police Commissioner of Bangalore and Mysore.[1][2] He is the father-in-law of Cricketer Mayank Agarwal.

Early life and background[edit]

Sood hails from Himachal Pradesh. He is a 1986-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He studied in top institutes like Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore, and Syracuse University in New York.[3]

Career[edit]

Sood started his career from Mysore in Karnataka, his first posting as an IPS officer in 1989. Later from 2004 to 2007, he served as the Police Commissioner of Mysore. He became the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Bengaluru in 2008 and served till 2011. Later in 2013, as Managing Director of the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, he was known to improving the turnover of KSPHC.[4]

Sood received the following awards:

  • The Chief Minister’s Gold Medal for excellence in service in 1996.[4]
  • Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2002.[4]
  • President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2011.[4]
  • The Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in 2006.[4]
