Ramil Hashimli (born 3 May 1978) is an Azerbaijani scientist. He is famous for his activities in the field of otorhinolaryngology in Azerbaijan. He is an assosiate professor and researcher.[1][2][3][4] The "APDVoice patient database" which he co-developed was designated by the Union of European Phoniatrics as a reference software for phoniatric clinics. For the first time in Azerbaijan, a "voice thickening" operation was performed on a thin-voiced male patient by Dr. Ramil Hashimli. He is the Secretary General of the "Central and West Asian Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery", member of the board of the Azerbaijan Otorhinolaryngology Society, member of the Union Europe Phoniatrics, the European Laryngology Society, The Voice Foundation and the Near Eurasian African Otorhinolaryngology Society.[5][6]

Ramil Hashimli graduated from Sumgayit City Technical and Natural Sciences High School named after N. Ganjavi with a certificate of distinction. In 1995–2001, after completing his studies at the Faculty of Pediatrics at the Azerbaijan Medical University, in 2001–2003, he received a clinical residency at the Otorhinolaryngology Department of the Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy, and then in 2003–2006, he received post-graduate studies at the same department. In 2006, he received the scientific degree of doctor of philosophy in medical sciences.

In 2007–2009, Ramil Hashimli worked as an otorhinolaryngologist at the Nasireddin Tusi clinic in Baku. In 2008, he started working as an assistant professor of the Department of Ear-Nose-Throat Diseases at the Azerbaijan State Advanced Training Institute for Doctors named after A.Aliyev, and in 2019, he was elected to the position of associate professor of that department and currently works in this position.[7]

He also works as an ear-nose-throat surgeon, phoniatrist at the LOR Hospital Baku and is the head of "VoiceDr Clinic”.

Scientific career[edit]

The main scientific and medical activities are devoted to the study of acute and chronic diseases of the larynx, etiopathogenesis, modern methods of examination and treatment of diseases encountered by vocalists.[8][9]

He has been a speaker at more than 50 international and local scientific congresses with the results of his research. He is the author of more than 100 scientific publications.

With grant support from the Science Development Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, he led the project to create a phoniatric laboratory at the ASATID named after A. Aliyeva. He is a co-author of the textbook "Fundamentals of Phoniatrics". The "APDVoice patient database" which he co-developed was designated by the Union of European Phoniatrics as a reference software for phoniatric clinics. For the first time in Azerbaijan, a team of doctors led by Ramil Hashimli performed an operation to “thicken the voice”.[10][2][3]

Member of the international editorial board of the medical journal “Medenieet”. The Secretary General of the "Central and West Asian Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery”. Member of the Union Europe Phoniatrics, the European Laryngology Society, The Voice Foundation and the Near Eurasian African Otorhinolaryngology Society. He is the national coordinator of the International Voice Day in Azerbaijan.[5]
