Scott D. Pulsipher is the president of Western Governors University, the largest university by enrollment in the United States. He was appointed to this position in April 2016.[1][2]

Education and early career[edit]

Pulsipher earned a bachelor's degree in management with a finance emphasis from Brigham Young University. He later obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School.[2][3]

After completing his bachelor's degree, Pulsipher worked at several companies, including Bain & Company, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Amazon.com, and was the president and COO of Needle.com.[4][5]

Before joining Amazon, and not long after business school, he joined Yantra, a supply software company, as a VP and from there went to Amazon where he said he found the job "emotionally draining" and felt that no one wanted to work for him. But was able to improve his relationship and from there moved on to Needle.com and then Western Governors.[6]

Community engagement[edit]

In addition to his work as an educator and administrator, Scott Pulsipher has been involved in various volunteering and community service initiatives. He served on the board of trustees for the Utah Technology Council (now Silicon Slopes Commons) from 2016 to 2019, where he helped to foster support for Utah's technology ecosystem. He also served as Tech Chair and board member of the Marriott School of Marketing's advisory board at Brigham Young University from January 2010 to April 2016.[7]

President of Western Governors University[edit]

As the president of Western Governors University, Pulsipher has overseen significant growth and expansion of the online, competency-based university, which serves more than 130,000 full-time students in the United States. During his tenure, he has launched several new degree programs and expanded WGU's reach through partnerships with other universities and businesses.[8][9]
