Siddharth Chatterjee

Siddharth Chatterjee works in the United Nations and currently serving as United Nations Resident Coordinator in China.[1] He leads and coordinates the work of over 26 UN agencies, funds and programmes in China. He is the senior most representative of the United Nations and represents the UN Secretary General in China. He presented his letter of credentials to the President of China in April 2021.[2][3]

Education[edit]

Chatterjee holds bachelor's degree in sciences from National Defence Academy, a certificate in Social Policy from Maastricht University and master's degree in public policy from the Princeton School for Public and International Affairs.[4][5]

Career[edit]

Chatterjee served in a special Forces Unit of the Indian Army and was decorated for gallantry by the President of India.[6][7] He later moved to United Nations where he served in peace keeping operations, UN Security, UNICEF, United Nations Office for Project Services, UNFPA and UNDP. He has also worked at the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.[8][9]

A highlight of his career was the demobilization of 3,551 child soldiers in South Sudan. This was the largest demobilization ever attempted successfully in the midst of a conflict.[10][11][12]

A three-time TEDx speaker,[13] he is a regular contributor in numerous media outlets such as Newsweek,[14] CNN,[15] CNBC,[16] the Los Angeles Times,[17] Reuters,[18] Forbes,[19] Huffington Post,[20] The Guardian,[21] Aljazeera[22] etc.
