Sučany (Hungarian: Szucsány, (til 1895) Szucsán, Polish: Suczany) is a village and municipality in Martin District in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia. It is located around 5 km northeast of Martin, in the Váh river valley.
History[edit]
In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1258.
Geography[edit]
The municipality lies at an altitude of 393 metres and covers an area of 33.264 km². It has a population of about 4,644 people. 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) to the north is the 1,509.3-metre (4,952 ft) high peak of Stratenec, part of the Krivánska Malá Fatra mountain range.
