IIRC I added {{R from modification}} in order to indicate that, strictly speaking, the actual name of the environment variable is APPEND (and % is just a syntax element of the batch language), although environment variables are often written as %APPEND% by convention (and to distinguish it from the APPEND command).

Which is true as well.

If you think the redirect is better without the rcat {{R from modification}}, feel free to remove it.
