Merging sections[edit]

@Al Ameer son: I know you like to merge sections, but I really wish you didn`t: It is much easier to edit with smaller sections. And I *do* intend to expand on the "modern" stuff; however, my priorities have been expanding the "old" stuff, first, Huldra (talk) 21:47, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Huldra: I'm largely basing the subsection structure on those of most good articles about localities and past experience. The article looks neater with less stubby sections. I agree that smaller sections are easier to edit, but this is much too small. The thing is, until you or I or anyone else fleshes out these sections whether it's tomorrow or years from now, these articles will likely be read by hundreds if not thousands of people in the meantime, so the article should always appear neat and follow MoS. I kept the British Mandate period separate from the post-Mandate material because it appears large enough on its own, but the "1948-1967" and "post-1967" subsections were merged for the obvious reason that both of these sections combined are essentially a couple of sentences, half of which are general statements that pertain to the entire West Bank. Moreover, the Jordanian period was a little more than 15 years so unless there's substantial material about Atara during that period, I don't see a situation where a subsection for that time period is warranted. Personally, I think modern-era populations statistics belong in a Demographics section because it shows the increase and decrease of the population of the village through the decades. --Al Ameer (talk) 22:23, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ad-Darieh = Atara[edit]

Conder and Tristram, while looking for biblical Ataroth, mention a place they call (Khirbet) Ed Darieh or Atara, near Lower Bethoron and 2.5 miles north of "Ramah". Can it be this? A bit too far from Lower Bethoron (c. 15 km straight line) to be called near imo, and was Ramah in Benjamin = Ramallah in their 19th-c. opinion? (Now they think it's al-Ram.) If so, again a bit too far (2.5 m = c. 4 km). But if indeed the same: (Khirbet) ed-Darieh must be mentioned as an alternative name, and we also have a name overlap with the Nabataean Khirbet ed-Darieh/Kh. edh-Dharih. A technicality, but needs to be kept in mind & sorted out. Arminden (talk) 23:29, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
