Independent, yes. Unrelated - no, certainly not. It wouldn't exist if the manuscripts hadn't been returned from Copenhagen. The very name comes from the fact that it was an offspring of the Danish institute (Hence the name "AM institute in Iceland"). P.S.: The future merger that you talk about in the article is no longer future. It happened on Sep 1, and the official name is now "Stofnun Árna Magnússonar í íslenskum fræðum". --dllu 10:06, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
