Role in the Free French[edit]

I've changed the wording from 'drawn aside' to 'dropped', as the meaning of the former is not clear. I have no access to reference books here; could someone pse verify that he was indeed dropped? Mikeo1938 (talk) 07:51, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Muselier arrested by Churchill[edit]

"On 1 January 1940, Churchill ordered Muselier's arrest on the basis of documents suggesting he was passing secrets to the Vichy. After the documents were shown to be forgeries, Churchill was forced to apologize to de Gaulle"

It's maybe worth to expand what happened ? This is a serious case . Specifically the fact he bypassed de Gaulle and get his admiral ...arrested .

The irony was the story quickly proved to be an internal affair betwin two officers whive dubious evidence .... The chronology ... just after railing of " Saint-pierre & Miquelon " and the subséquent affair toward the sovereignity of the archipelago .

A possible British invasion under the fear Saint Pierre could shelter/refuel U-Boat,triggered de Gaulle who was aware of the signifiance of the islands .

Saint pierre & Miquelon have a strong symbolic , it's the last remain of the "Nouvelle France" . It was previoulsy invaded by British force during the Napoléonic wars (1803 ) and de Gaulle was aware of it !

Charles de Gaulle was an historian at Saint-Cyr military school and that explain most of his acting during his career . 2A01:CB00:456:9C00:AC61:B0D8:87A:3515 (talk) 11:25, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
