Why is there .mq when there is .fr? --Abdull 13:27, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Incase Mq ever goes independent, then they're already covered. Its probably the same reason why there's a .pr (Puerto Rico) when there's a .us. And why there's a .ie (Ireland) when there's a .uk. Likewise .gl (Greenland) when it is a part of Denmark (.dk) etc.. CaribDigita 13:55, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ireland (the Republic Of...) is independent now. It's just Northern Ireland that's part of the UK. *Dan T.* 15:59, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The criteria for inclusion are based on ISO 3166-1 alpha-2, see ISO's FAQ which claims "New names and codes are added when the United Nations publish new names in either their Terminology Bulletin Country Names or in the Country and Region Codes for Statistical Use maintained by the United Nations Statistics Division. There is no other way of having new country names included in ISO 3166-1." The UN lists are political, they do list all UN member countries, but oddball terms like "Taiwan, Province of China" are used to appease the communists. --205.150.76.42 04:00, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
