Sports

Lots of people have had the number 15 on their uniform, vote to delete just about everything but the tennis fact. Cs302b (talk) 20:09, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Games

Alabama Crimson Tide football

An editor (acting as IP and as @Blaxiom:) has been adding:

• In the Division I (NCAA) of College Football
  • The number 15 equals the number of National Championships by the Alabama Crimson Tide.

It's not obvious, even from Alabama Crimson Tide football, that that is a record, and even if it were, that's not the sort of record we record here. Neither that nor Manchester United F.C.. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 16:19, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

It seems as though an editor: Arthur Rubin has taken some sort of strange issue with the number of National Titles the Alabama Crimson Tide have been awarded. As I noted in edit summaries, the relevant guideline in WP:WikiProject Numbers#Numbers in sports. I don't see how that allows "number of national championships". It also violates WP:NOTNEWS, and would require frequent monitoring, as it should be removed immediately if another school gets 16. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 17:42, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Retired jersey numbers

Per WP:PRESERVE, here is the list of retired #15 jersey numbers and racecars that were mentioned in the article:

• The jersey number 15 has been retired by several North American sports teams in honor of past playing greats or other key figures:
  • In Major League Baseball:
    • The New York Yankees, for Thurman Munson.
  • In the NBA:
    • The Boston Celtics, for Tom Heinsohn, a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and coach for the team.
    • The Dallas Mavericks, for Brad Davis.
    • The Detroit Pistons, for Vinnie Johnson.
    • The New York Knicks have retired the number twice, both for Hall of Fame players. #15 was first retired in 1986 for Earl Monroe. Six years later, it was retired a second time for Dick McGuire, who had worn the number before Monroe's arrival in the NBA.
    • The Philadelphia 76ers, for Hall of Famer Hal Greer.
    • The Portland Trail Blazers, for Larry Steele.
  • In the NHL:
    • The Boston Bruins, for Hall of Famer Milt Schmidt.
  • In the NFL:
    • The Green Bay Packers, for Hall of Famer Bart Starr.
    • The Philadelphia Eagles, for Hall of Famer Steve Van Buren.
